Dietary Fiber and Weight Control

Dietary fiber is a factor in the regulation of human food consumption and its intake act as a natural barrier to excess energy intake. This statement is an over simplification of the dietary fiber and weight control situation because dietary fiber is a complex mixture of material from a wide variety of sources, which have different effects depending on their structure and physical form.

Several mechanisms for dietary fiber's action have been proposed :

1. A reduction in the caloric absorption.
2. Increased chewing of food slows the rate of intake .
3. Increased satiety associated with the extra volume of the bowel contents
4. Changes in blood glucose and hormones.

High dietary fiber foods are less calorie dense than the more refined foods.Dietary fiber cannot be digested by the human digestive system, and as it posses through the colon,it takes with it,all accumulated metabolic waste material
.
Dietary fiber has a water binding capacity.Another important aspect about consuming dietary fiber,to enhance weight loss,is to drink lots of pure water.
